*** MARCH IS ***
*** COLORECTAL CANCER AWARENESS MONTH ***

Each year more than 100,000 people are diagnosed with Colon and Rectum Cancers and many will lose their lives to this terrible disease. Unfortunately, Colorectal Cancer is not a cancer most people talk about yet it is the fourth common cancer and is the second most deadly. Colorectal Cancer is also 90% curable, if detected early. The purpose of this site is to help educate people about Colorectal Cancer and help spread the word about early testing.
This site was created because of and is dedicated to my mother. She was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer with liver metastasis in December 2001. We found out shortly after her diagnosis that we had a strong family history of colon cancer that was never talked about. Often called intestine or bowel problems, some members of the family also had surgery on their colons but cancer was never mentioned. Now, with the knowledge of our family history, my aunts and uncles are getting colonoscopies and recommending their friends to do the same and talk to their own families about Colorectal Cancer. The next generation is getting involved also. When the time comes my brother and I will get our own colonoscopies and spread the word to our own families. In the meantime, we continue to learn more about Colorectal Cancer and try to lead a healthy lifestyle by avoiding the many risk factors to this disease. We also help in my mother's fight with this terrible disease and hope that by spreading the word about early detection people will be able to talk about this subject without embarrassment.
Know the Facts. Get Tested. Spread the Word.
Sincerely,
Mackenzie Field |
